I've become a big believer in karma the past few years and clearly you has some good coming your way. Glad to hear it all worked out, nothings worse than the "car broke down" excuse, even when it's true.
I've seen McDonalds in hospitals too...very odd placement.

While the sentiment has been stated before, it cannot be said enough. Hopefully those with talent will stick to a rate card so the :60 for $25 will get what they paid for.

...and while I try to be careful to whom I say it, my other counter to the clients who "know" they could do just as well is, "just because you can read words out loud doesn't necessarily mean you can communicate a message".
