Los Angeles - Day Five.... I think
I dunno what day I'm on. I'm gonna talk about Sunday.
Oh, and BTW, I will post pics on my blog. I was going to do it now, but I got locked out of my Photobucket account due to my inability to remember my username and password. (Getting old and forgetful). So, please, come back and look at my photos!
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.... let me think....
There were many great sessions on Sunday. Joyce Castellanos talking about Promos and Trailers, Marc Graue discussing vo from both sides of the glass, and Bob Bergen talking about Characters and More. I would've liked to have gone to all three sessions, but they were running concurrently, unfortunately. I chose to go to Bob Bergen's class. I don't do characters at all (although my real voice is sometimes used for characters), but I wanted to go b/c I had never experienced one of Bob's classes before. I have to say, this is the ONLY session the entire conference in which I took notes. He didn't just talk about characters and how to do them, he touched upon certain aspects of the business that everyone can use. And really, previously I was intimidated by the thought of even trying to create character voices, but in listening to Bob and learning how he breaks his characters down, per se, maybe I COULD do it.
Then I went to Larry Maizlish's session on the Online VO Industry from a Buyer's Perspective. I was excited to meet Larry as I've just been invited to join his roster of talent on www.voicesoncall.com. Larry's presentation was excellent, especially for those who are new to the online casting arena. He did a fabulous job presenting!
Now, for the session I'd been waiting for all week... Joe Cipriano's panel. His guests were: Beau Weaver, Townsend Coleman, Kat Cressida, Stew Herrera, Paul Pape, and Melissa Disney. WOW!! All that talent at one table. I did have the opportunity to meet and speak with Melissa. Again, very down to earth and nice girl.
After that, I ran up to the room, quickly changed, and ran back down to meet up with friends for the banquet. Kara and I had dates - Bob Souer and his son Eric. They were wonderful dates... I always love talking with Bob. He's a master... anyone who can do long form narration such as reading the entire Bible is a hero of mine! The banquet was fun... but honestly, I can say that I had been running so much b/c the days were so jammed full that I was exhausted. After dinner, Kara and I went up to the hotel bar to have a "goodbye" drink.... and we shared our life stories.
All in all, this was a wonderful trip. Kara and I are kindred spirits... we REALLY hit it off. I met so many people, I which I could name them all here. But, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed meeting each and every one of the folks that I did!!
Ok, now it's back to work!

Awww... thanks Kara!! I tend to be the type to focus though... so I think I'm going to "focus" on commercial and promo. I think I will at least audit Bob Bergen's class in Sarasota in Dec... maybe I'll jump in with both feet. I dunno.
Nice to finally meet you too. Who would've thought we'd have hit it off SO well??
