Los Angeles - Day Three
Day Three proved to be as fun and exciting as Days One and Two.
My day began meeting Randy Thomas' husband, Arnie, and their daughter Rachel, for a cup of tea in the hotel restaurant. Arnie is a wonderful guy and a very innovative thinker, and Rachel is one of the smartest and sweetest little girls you'll ever meet. We chatted about the plans for Randy and Peter's book launch in October. We're having a HUGE book signing in Fort Myers on Saturday, October 11... so if you live in Florida and you have any interest in voice over, you need to come to the book signing and launch that weekend!! There will also be signings with Randy and Peter in New York City and Los Angeles. More on that to come.
Then, Arnie and Rachel departed, and Peter Rofe' met me for breakfast. We crafted his opening remarks for the panel he is going to moderate at VOICE today. Peter is a funny guy... I always enjoy hanging out with him, b/c undoubtedly I laugh hysterically at and with him.
We then went down to the Exhibit Hall and Peter talked with many interested vo's about the book coming out, etc. In the meantime, I left to figure out how I was going to get my scripts for my noon ISDN session, and make sure I had the booth reserved. It is SO NICE that they have an ISDN booth set up here for us to work... and for FREE!!! I'm so appreciative of that!!!
So, I did my session... it was two radio spots for the Texas Department of Transportation. The first was a tad challenging (I LIKE that though!), b/c I had to match a voice that was male, but not necessarily with the same emotion, but definitely the same timing. Oh, and I couldn't do it while they played it back b/c there was slapback in my headphones, so they'd play it for me, then record me by myself, then play with the tracks to see if they matched up. I had never quite done that before... and it turns out, the ad agency and engineer never had either. So, it was a unique experience for all.
After that, I went to Randy and Peter's booth for a while to help out, and then I finally got to go to my first session of the day... the Marc Cashman Master Class. Marc is really an expert, and there was a lot of good little tidbits to learn in the class. I particularly enjoyed listening to Scott Brick read one of the example spots.
Then it was back to Peter and Randy's booth for a bit, and then I realized I hadn't checked my email all day (it was 4 pm by this point). So I went up to the lobby... made a couple of phone calls to clients. I received the good tentative news that it appears that I have landed FIVE more Hannah Montana TV commercials. They're still in the approval process with the network and Disney, but so far, it appears I'm in. YES!
I ran into Terry Daniel and Erik Sheppard, and so we hung out and had a beverage and chatted. They are fun guys. Maxine Dunn joined us... she is as beautiful as she appears in her photos. And, wow, what a lovely voice!!!
At 5:30, it was off to dinner with Peter Rofe'. We met Randy Thomas, her husband Arnie, Randy's friend and celebrity publicist, Arielle Ford and her husband Brian, and Sarah, the audio engineer from Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, at NOBU. It was truly one of the most delicious sushi meals I've ever experience. Absolutely divine. And, the company was fabulous.
Sarah (from The Insider), me, Peter Rofe, Arielle Ford, her husband Brian, Randy and her husband Arnie:

Then, back to the hotel, where I tracked down my new buddy Kara Edwards. She joined Peter, Randy, Randy's friend Sherry, and I for a drink, and then it was off to bed.
Today is a big day. Randy's presentation takes place, as well as Peter's panel. Randy's friend, Martha Quinn, is one of the guests during her presentation. I'm SO excited to meet Martha (one of the original MTV VJs and now host of Martha Quinnn Presents on Sirius' 80s channel). More tomorrow!
