Be Thankful (no, it's not Thanksgiving... yet!)
So, yesterday, I was busy trying to figure out what in the world the "snap, crackle, pop" was that I was hearing... and not in my cereal bowl!!
I was recording a job yesterday, and the sounds started, oh, so subtley. Then a little more, then a firestorm of popping and static for a few seconds.... then quiet.
I called a local studio engineer, a fellow vo friend called her engineer and had me talk with him, I called Sweetwater, where I bought all of this equipment, I called a friend vo of mine, who I recalled had this same issue last year (it was her soundcard), I posted message threads on two vo message boards asking for help, I PM'd a fellow vo talent who is an awesome engineer and production guy, and a fellow vo called me and practically spent the afternoon with me troubleshooting.
Of course, with all of those contacts, I got a different idea of what it could be from each one of them.
I think it's my Symetrix (one fellow vo/engineer recommended I turn all the knobs and push all the buttons to "clean" them... it's worked, for the most part). I think maybe it's dying a slow death, and I'm guessing I'll have to buy a new one soon.
To add to my hectic day, I had a meeting last night with an organization I volunteer with... and I was running the meeting. I had no agenda, etc. until 45 minutes before (highly unlike me, if you know me). And on my way there, I stopped to get a sweet tea (my vice) and a good portion of it leaked onto my car seat, giving me the appearance of "oooohhh... she didn't quite make it to the rest room." The girl at the drive thru was so apologetic... and it was then I realized and told her, "Really, it's not the worst thing that could happen, after today. No worries."

All of this is to say, my day made me realize that I am very thankful for everything I do have. I'm so grateful for
- my husband (who knew I had a stressful day, packed a cooler of wine to take to my meeting so I could be a good hostess to the other volunteers that have been working so hard this month... complete with napkins that said "Stop Me Before I Volunteer Again" and a wine bottle opener) -- he's just been so supportive in every way.
- I'm thankful for our health.
- I'm thankful for my friends because they are supportive of me, and always listen when I need to talk
- I'm especially thankful for my vo friends. Even though I've never met most of them, they're all so willing to help in anyway they can when things go wrong, and they're so happy for you when things go right!
- I'm thankful for my clients and their trust in me to get the job done, and for their kind words of appreciation.
There's just so much to be thankful for... so when things go to hell, like they did yesterday for me, just remember, it could be far worse, and be thankful!!! Everything works out in the end.

Caryn,
What a terrific breath of fresh air in this new post. Indeed, we all have much for which to give thanks.
Thank you for reminding me today.
Be well,
Bob
